SCHOOL AND HOME COMMUNICATION

The Marshall PTA uses a variety of media channels to communicate with our families. We will send regular updates and welcome hearing your voices as well!  Here are the channels that we regularly use:

Bloomz:  Download the Bloomz app for day to day updates from Marshall school. Here you will see things like photos, videos and news from cultural events like the Story Tellers and the Broadway Immersion program, get important information and pictures from your child’s teacher and receive notices from the principal about school changes due to weather. We also love seeing your comments and feedback as well on Bloomz! Get the app here.

Marshall Website:

Check the Marshall website regularly for updates on upcoming events and school changes and to search for important forms and buy from the school store. Most of the website is open to the public and the community at large. However, you must register for the Marshall PTA in order to receive access to the online student directory, our school store, volunteer forms, and much more. You will also be added to Hoot Owl News, Marshall School's weekly email newsletter. To register, fill out the online form.

Weekly Email – The Hoot Owl News:

The PTA newsletter comes out each Sunday and includes all information about the school for the upcoming week. Sign up for the Marshall PTA here to receive it!

SchoolMessenger

This the official system that SOMSD and Marshall School uses to send emails to the entire parent community. This system is usually used to notify parents about school closures due to weather, etc. All parents with students registered with SOMSD are automatically included in this email list.

Marshall-Jefferson Facebook Page

We share a community Facebook Closed Group with Jefferson School. The Facebook Group is private and managed by PTA members. The Marshall-Jefferson PTA Facebook group is another place where members of the community can connect, communicate and discuss.

Backpack Notices

Notices from the Principal, teachers and the PTA oftentimes come home in student backpacks. Parents could also correspond with teachers in the same way by including a note addressed to the teacher and placing it in their child’s dedicated homework folder in their backpack. However, should you wish to communicate more directly with your child’s teacher, feel free to call or email them directly

General PTA Meetings

At least three times each year, the PTA holds general meetings that are open to the entire school community. These in-person meetings provide status updates about the school and request opinions, viewpoints, and votes of the general membership. Each meeting also offers an engaging and interactive component and centers around a focus area of our curriculum; past meetings have included small-group workshops about literacy, hands-on arts integration activities, and a summer slide open house. For the dates, times, and topics of this year’s scheduled meetings, please see the school year calendar.

Principal Updates

At each PTA general meeting, Principal Horn provides updates about the school and invites questions from members of the community. For the dates and times of scheduled meetings, please see the event calendar

Curriculum Nights

Every fall the school schedules evening presentations about each grade’s curriculum, known as Back To School Night. Teachers meet with families to outline expectations and talk about methods and materials that will be used during the year. We encourage all parents to attend Back To School Night to get a better understanding of what your child will be learning. Check the events calendar to find out when Back to School Night is for this school year.

Conferences and Appointments

Teacher conferences are generally scheduled in fall and spring. At these conferences, parents or guardians discuss their child’s academic progress with the teacher. If there are issues that require immediate attention, families do not need to wait for the scheduled conferences; rather, they should make an appointment directly with their child’s teacher.
